Negotiations between Messi and Barcelona have begun

Barcelona and Lionel Messi have started negotiations for a new contract of the superstar with the club. The new president of “Los Coules” Joan Laporta and the father and agent of the Argentine Jorge Messi have had several conversations in recent days, reports the Catalan newspaper Sport. Messi’s current contract at the age of 34 next month with Barcelona expires on June 30.

However, the club’s final offer to the player will depend on the internal audit results of the club’s financial condition, according to Sport. According to the publication, Laporta and Jorge Messi have laid the foundations of a possible agreement.

The president of Barça has explained to Messi’s father the details of the contract he has conceived. The Messi family liked the proposals, and both sides have a clear idea of what the new contract should look like, but various details still need to be clarified.

Laporta’s plan is to offer Messi a contract that will keep the Argentine at the “Camp Nou” after the end of his active football career. Messi’s worries are related to the club’s project for the team’s performance next season.

The Argentine is still very hungry for victories and wants to fight to win the Champions League. It is not clear what the summer selection of the team will be, as the bringing of new players will depend on the audit as mentioned above and the sale of players. According to Sport, however, one thing is clear – the transfer target №1 of Barcelona this summer is the Norwegian striker of Borussia (Dortmund) Erling Holland.

“There is still a long way to go, but the first step has been taken and with a positive result. All indications are that Messi is now closer than ever to stay on the team, although a stronger agreement could be achieved only after weeks.

But the views of Laporta, Lionel Messi and Jorge Messi overlap, and there was no such understanding between the Messi family and former Barça president Joseph Maria Bartomeu.

The publication adds that the two clubs with the best chances to kidnap Messi from the “Camp Nou” – Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, are monitoring the situation, but in any case, the Argentine will first listen to Barcelona’s offer before making a final decision.
