UEFA has announced the penalties for the nine clubs that left the Super League

The European Football Association (UEFA) has announced that nine of the 12 clubs that were part of the European Super League project but decided to leave it will be fined 5 per cent of their revenue from European club tournaments in one season.

The measure will affect English Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham, Italian Inter and Milan and Spanish Atletico Madrid.

The other three clubs, which have not yet officially announced their resignation from the Super League – Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona and Italian Juventus, will be subject to disciplinary proceedings, which are expected to lead to much more severe penalties for them.

The nine clubs that withdrew from the Super League have agreed to donate a total of 15 million euros, which will be given for youth football. In addition, each of the teams has agreed to pay a fine of 100 million euros if it decides to join such a project again.

“The announced measures are serious, but none of the financial sanctions will be withheld by UEFA,” said Alexander Cheferin, UEFA’s president.

“All the money from the fines will be reinvested in youth and grassroots football in local communities across Europe, including the UK. These clubs quickly recognized their mistakes and took action to show their regret and commitment to European football.

However, the same cannot be said. To say about the clubs that continue to participate in the so-called Super League. UEFA will deal with these clubs later, “commented Cheferin.

Earlier, Cheferin told the AP that clubs that refuse to withdraw from the Super League might be deprived of the right to participate in tournaments organized by UEFA.
