Virgil van Dijk announced his decision for Euro 2020

Liverpool central defender Virgil van Dijk, who is still recovering from a severe knee injury, ruled out the possibility of playing for the Netherlands in the upcoming European Championship. The defender is in the last stage of his recovery, but he thinks it is better to concentrate on being ready for the pre-season training with Liverpool.

“Seven months ago, I got injured, and the road was very, very long. I had to walk it step by step, as I did. Things are going well. At this last stage, I had to decide whether to participate in Euro 2020 or not. I feel that physically the right decision is not to go to the Euros and start the last phase of rehabilitation after the end of the season. The whole focus will be on pre-season training with Liverpool, and that is a realistic goal. It is clear that I am upset.

I will miss the European Championship, and I will not be able to bring my country to this forum. But things are like that, and I have to accept them. I think this is the right decision,” Virgil van Dijk told the Merseyside website.
